La Aljaba Children's Home

Location: Colombia

Start a Fundraising campaign

In Leticia, Colombia, La Aljaba Children's Home assists abandoned and poor children by giving them the opportunity to benefit from integral development and instruction in Christian principles and values.

The name for La Aljaba (Spanish for 'the quiver'), comes from Psalm 127, where it says, "Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children are a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them."

Through a holistic ministry, children benefit physically from the lunch program, mentally as staff support them in accomplishing homework, socially through multi-generational interaction, and emotionally through the love and care of staff.

Lucy, a native Colombian who manages the home, encourages all children and their parents to attend church. She seeks to connect them with biblically-based congregations eagerly reaching their communities.

Almost 90 children attend the before- or after-school care, attending public school the other half-day. Twenty-four stay overnight Monday-Friday and go home on weekends. Four stay 24/7, since they have nowhere else to call home.

Support is welcomed for La Aljaba Children’s Home to:

  • Sponsor a child on an ongoing monthly basis for $1/day or $50/mo.
  • Provide scholarship funding for a graduate to attend a one year program in Bogota, combining education in Bible, English and Music. Total cost for one year is approximately $2700USD.
  • Contact [email protected] if your church is interested in sending a team to minister to these children or provide maintenance to the facility.
  • Contact [email protected] if you are qualified to offer theological training to local pastors.

Camino Global in Canada is taking the lead on this project, and is therefore the main point of contact. If your church is interested in sending a team to minister to these children or provide maintenance to the facility, or if you are qualified to offer theological training to local pastors, please email [email protected] for more information.
