Jean Barsness Dr. (Aileen) Jean Barsness was born into a Bible-believing home and trusted Christ at age 15 when she began the process of learning the principles and practices of discipleship. As a young single adult, God directed her steps to Gospel Missionary Union and Panama. During her first home assignment, Aileen met Gil Reimer, a high-school teacher in Manitoba and married before they returned to Panama together where they came to know a number of Camino missionaries. Blessed with two children, life was enriched with ministries in church planting, Theological Education by Extension, teaching at Bethel Seminary and providing hospitality in the guesthouse. On February 11, 1974 Jean’s husband mysteriously disappeared. A search later revealed his mutilated body on the banks of the Panama Canal. After 19 years of ministry in Panama, God directed the family to Ecuador and then back to Canada where Jean taught at Briercrest Bible College and continued her education, completing an MA in Missions and a Doctor of Missiology degree. Following five years of widowhood, Jean married Alton Barsness and has been blessed with a blended family of five children, eleven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Jean has served in various capacities with AVANT, SEND and co-founded CrossTraining Global. She continues to speak at global conferences, women’s retreats, and teaches missions at Millar College of the Bible, while serving on her church missions committee in Calgary, Alberta. |
