Tom and Mary served in Guatemala for 17 years focused on discipleship and leadership development in the local church and camping ministry. In 2004 God called them to Latinos in California, and they have seen Him raise up a Spanish-speaking congregation at Hessel Church. Expansion from this base to train leaders continues as a passionate call to multiply laborers in this needy San Francisco Bay area.

Pastor / Leadership Training

Tom and Mary have always loved serving the Lord together and seeing God raise up believers that are maturing in their faith and walk with God. During College they served together on ministry teams at their local church and with the Navigators, always with an emphasis on discipleship.

Both sensed a call to serving God in a cross cultural setting and saw that call focused on Guatemala in 1982. While raising support with Camino, Tom received a call to serve at Hessel as interim youth pastor in '85-86. Sortly thereafter Tom and Mary were commissioned to Guatemala in August '86.

Coming back to the US and to Hessel church was a transition every bit as challenging as the original move to Guatemala. Yet it was clearly what God called them to do, and He has blessed their work by establishing a Spanish-speaking congregation at Hessel (www.hessel.org).

While in Guatemala (1986-2004), they adopted Mark (1988) and Maggie (1990) and now have two beautiful grandsons, Marek and Caleb.
