CAM International of Canada becomes Camino Global
March 5, 2013
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
This ancient Chinese proverb was true in 1890 when Dr. C.I. Scofield prayed over Acts 1:8 in the United States and felt called to send workers to his "Samaria" - Central America.
It was still true in 1950 when The Central American Mission birthed a receipting office in Canada, inviting Canadian donors to partner in this ministry to Spanish-speakers.
CAM Canada's desire in 2013 is to continue to walk with Spanish-speakers, another thousand miles, through a refreshed vision that expands this journey. CAM International of Canada announced its official launch as Camino Global on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 after a three-year conversation with board members, staff, missionaries, national leaders, donors and other strategic partners. This follows and converges with the rebranding process experienced in July 2012, when CAM International, based in Dallas, TX became Camino Global.
Serving the Church, Camino Global will journey with Spanish speakers everywhere to transform communities, equip believers, and reach the world.
Today's geographic scope of ministry is immensely different than the late 19th century. While still laser-focused on ministry among Spanish speakers, the Spanish-speaking world itself is changing on a global scale. Camino Global's ministry reach in the 21st century now extends to five continents, especially considering Spanish speakers in more than 100 countries who are impacted daily through the explosive growth of online ministries.
Now this journey is global, not just regional. The Spanish word camino ('way' or 'path') is important to describe the journey with Spanish speakers; but the word global is equally important to reflect just how extensive that journey is. Founded to reach Spanish speakers in Central America, Camino Global is growing to journey with Spanish speakers around the world.
Whether you have journeyed with CAM International of Canada for many years, or if you are just joining the journey with Camino Global, you are invited to take a tour of our new home online.
Did you know? Nearly 300 Camino missionaries serve in 26 teams in 11 countries on 4 continents.
